Australian Master and Commander Rescued on Long Island

The U.S. Coast Guard came to the aid of the Australian actor Russel Crowe the other day.
Russell Crowe rescued in Huntington Bay: Coast Guard

He's acting in a film about Noah and since we are now getting the remnants of Hurricane Issac I expect he will be back at work today.

I guess he doesn't pick up much from his scripts. Kayaking in a storm is not generally considered good seamanship in the British Navy.

I guess he was really into his new character... Noah didn't know where was going either.....

To be fair we had a rather delightful weekend here when Crowe started his adventure and Crowe did do a pretty long Kayak from Cold Spring Harbor around Lloyd Point and into Huntington Harbor. If he only had a chart of the area with him with him he could have easily kayaked through Lloyd harbor and then a small portage back into Cold Spring Harbor where he began the journey.

Probably had the chart upside down--you know them Aussies

His portrayal of John Nash in 2001's "A Beautiful Mind " was superb

I feel for the guy. Lots of non-famous people get lost in kayaks or fooled by tide and current every day. He's 48 and out kayaking in roughish weather...and perhaps should be cut some slack.
