BC Ferries Super C

For the BCers here, I caught a glimpse of one of the new ferries in the Miraflores lock on the pancanal website today.

Wooh-hooo

Looks like a beauty. As a loyal Vancouver resident, I intend to rush out and take a ride on that ferry as soon as she arrives--in case I don't have long to do so before the understaffed, undertrained, regulation-ignoring, hash-stoned, love-struck, instrument-ignoring BCFerries bridge crew rams her into an island and sinks her, like they did this ferry's predecessor. (In the inquest after that tragic fatal accident, BCFerries promised they would not do so again, but I kinda figure they more or less promised not to do ram ferries into islands right from the beginning, too.)

BC Ferries ~ Introducing the Super Cs
BC Ferries: <Super C>

"Coastal Renaissance" is the first of three new Coastal Class vessels. The vessel arrived in B.C. waters December 13, 2007, after a 48-day, 9,990 nautical mile journey from Germany’s FSG Shipyard, and was scheduled to begin service in March 2008.

If you are travelling on the new Super-C ferries, be afraid; very, very afraid. The liferafts, escape slides and evacuation systems on those boats are all designed by, yes, you guessed it, yours truly!

A Tasmanian designed a liferaft (etc), built in Germany, for use in Canada ?
Small world.

Did you take a racing liferaft and turn it into a cruising liferaft?
