Re: Camera gear for traveling.

Well.

Disappointed in the Sony range of compacts. A look at videos on Youtube made with Sonys will show out a slightly washed out look, and a "soft" image which detracts from the focus...

Canon, Panasonic and Fuji seem a lot better.

This is personal opinion and subject to rebuttal..

Re: Camera gear for traveling.

Last night, I purchased the Canon EOS M100. It's a little bigger than I wanted, yet I compromised for the quality of the images and wide latitude for operator incompetence.

DH suggested the 6 series from Sony. Thanks for that. I just didn't want to get up there in price.. Not overly impressed with Sonys compact output in terms of video and sharpness... the more expensive units seem to be on a different level.

Re: Camera gear for traveling.

15 mins spare, so I did a quick video in the fading light, hence occasional phone video stutter and hunt.

These are the three cameras I will take with me when teaching. All 4K.

I guess you should look at the entry level DSLR kits for sure. The Nikon D3300 with the kit 18-55mm is awesoome and if you can afford it, the 18-200mm or 18-300mm are awesome upgrades for general photography. The entry Canon would probably be a good option too with similar lenses.

I have DSLRs. I bought the Canon 100m mirrorless for size. Tired of lugging huge cameras across the world and on the boat, worried about theft and big bags etc..

To be honest, the quality of cameras these days is amazing...It does not seem to matter which make a person buys, the choice is in the personal preferences more than the lenses.......
