Re: Camper when off the boat

If you're looking at getting off the beaten track (i.e Alaska/Canada/Mexico) I would highly recommend a 4WD truck with small to medium sized box camper and good set of tires. The large RV's can be a pain to park in tight spots and drive on narrow dirt or wining roads and will limit you to where you can go. Same goes for light duty camper vans, the roads up here regularly eat them up, broken axles, spun bearings, multiple flat low ply tires etc. You can probably find something in the southern states in great shape for under 15k usd (sleep 4, furnace, stove, oven, bathroom, pressure h/c water etc) and sell in the north for more than you paid (things generally fetch a premium price up here, just don't expect any takers in the winter). Best part with these setups is if you're so inclined you can have the camper off in 15 min and now you have an off-road vehicle for further exploration. That said there are a few very large box campers out there as well, these can get heavy and large as well IMO. Expect to pay between 10k and 20k USD and recoup most if not all and then some depending on where you sell. .

Re: Camper when off the boat

To further expand on the 4WD concept, here in the USA these are referred to as truck campers and have become very popular because they can be taken off the vehicle. They can also go on 2WD trucks.

Here is a good site for information about them.

Here is another good site for all kinds of RV's/Campers for sale.

Re: Camper when off the boat

On rvtrader and/or google you can do a search for "spinter rv class b" to find some "European style" van conversions.

Funny, that this thread popped up. The wife and I were talking about a boat related RVs this weekend.

Later,

The tradeoffs in the USA favor larger RVs, in part because fuel is cheaper, in part because the roads are wider, in part because there are many areas where the weather is, overall, rainier and less predictable than in NZ or Europe which means more time spent inside.

You may be interested in the Airstream B190. They were discontinued some years ago but are still available used, and are similar to what you posted. There is a forum here: https://b190.com/viewforum.php?f=18

There is a smaller, well-run forum for all makes and models where you could ask general questions such as this: The RV Forum Community - Index

Also what's the best used camper website to look on?

There is no one best used camper website. They vary regionally, by brand, and by price range.
