My wife and I decided not to have children. If evryone tried this approach the issue would be mute in a few years. If we are guessing about the human effect on the planet let us start there. I may be wrong but the Ice has been receding for a few million years. What should we do to stop it?

If you replaced your car with an all electric then the CO2 production would just shift to the electric plant.

And what is wrong with a little more CO2 anyway? It is not causing warming anyway. CO2 rises follow temperature rises, always has. Look it up.

Water vapor is the only big greenhouse gas. Haven't all of you seen that? Have you seen what spectrum CO2 absorbs and holds. Sheesh.

That is what gets me the most - everyone thinking CO2 is somehow evil and YOU need to produce less so I can have credits to produce more. Sheesh!!

Science is the new religion.

Science and scientific findings and their resultant "answers" which drive activities are not always right though the believers hold their beliefs to be "the truth" and others are "wrong" and have lost their way and need to be "converted" so they can see "the truth" and live properly.

This seems to be from both sides of the argument. Both with their own "facts" even though the facts can easily (and have been) skewed by using statistics (math - a form of science right?) on them.

Science IS the new religion.

And the "Golden rule" still applies because we are talking about humans here, and they have not changed.

Like I wrote; I'm tired of answering the same four questions again and again (often to the same people (!), just a little later).

Actually Gord, you're right, I'd probably be more inclined to go with "conservative, capitalist" given the "liberal socialists" have spawned Mao-ism, Stalin-ism, Nazi-ism (national socialists - remember), Pol Pot-ism and just about every other unpleasant "ism" that's affected the world in the last 100 years

The UN has become a sad, dysfunctional joke

Always remember: a Greenie will do anything he can to save the planet (except get an engineering degree)

Ah, be careful of the minions...they are the first to be hurt and the last to be looked after. They suffer the consequences of the descisions of the "educated" and "wealthy". They are swayed by fear, usually propergated by interest groups, that have no interest in them.
But when they are hungry, hurt, and homeless, they will need no degree to "educate " them as to their situation. Collectively, they force change. Sadly after they have suffered.
Dont get me wrong...it is the science that we need to help us understand our situation and behave better.
BUT dont for a second underestimate those minions.
Particularly the "passionate, long haired , dole bludging, greenie". They have done more to save us from ourselves than most. They have also done almost no harm. In time they will be given credit...as has already happened many times.....

Interesting thoughts. Finland, where your boat was built, is communist/capitalist amalgam best described as a socialist republic. The rest of the Scandinavian countries are socialist, as are half the governments of Europe, Canada, and every G7 country except the United States, which only barely fails to meet the socialism standards.

Of course all those "greenie" engineering contests, like solar rayce[1][2] or fuel economy[1][2][3], or the US government's green enginneering programs, turn out no engineers. In fact, all those wind farm engineering firms, which are clocking revenues in the billions annually, don't really do any engineering.

And the UN is hopelessly bogged down with concepts of world peace and human rights for everyone. Completely useless, not to mention expensive.

As long as we're talking about "-isms", let's not forget Capitalisms, like the USA (21 occasions of troops entering foreign countries without invitation in the past 25 years), Israel (14 incursions in neighboring nations without invitation), and Indonesia (5 incursions, including Western New Guinea and East Timor.) In most settings, such events are titled "invasions".

I repeat that most people, myself included, have deeply held beliefs which are indistinguishable from religious beliefs, and are often at odds with agreed upon reality.

The last 6 posts have nothing to do with "climate change".

Lets get back on course and save the BS for the political/religious/grump forums, not here!

::unrepentant grin:: But Delmarrey! This is the off-topic forum! (or, now, a subforum thereof)

Once you expose the deniers "scientific" claims as non-science, all they have left are conspiracy theories and normative politics. All such discussions are going to end that way. *shrug*
