I know there are quite a few different citizens of different countries contributing to the forum so am asking what is your definition of the difference between the words "ship" and "boat." Early on in my Navy career (1962) I was told that a boat can be lifted aboard a ship (except submarines) and of course I was sternly corrected each time I used the wrong term. So, what's your definition? Should this be a new thread?

certainly true. Small Inertia of a light boat could let it more readily bounce off. Our 36 tons may impale itself on pointy stuff.
