There is talk about opening a season on crocs. That is really what this thread is all about. Seems like common sense to me, but city folk generally don't like any hunting and they have more votes.
From what you just posted, it doesn't sound like NRA propaganda to me. True select fire assault weapons are also restricted in the US.

In 1982 we saw a large croc half a mile outside the Hornibrook Bridge at the mouth of the Cabulture River and some reports on the Logan river in the late 60s so they are always around

In that case I'll pass Thank You..
Funny enough in my time in N Oz, through the Torres and on to Darwin and beyond I did not see a single 'salties'.. lots of whales and a couple of big sharks but zero crocs..
Never saw any transiting Panama either.. or the 'big fella' whose supposed to lurk in Shelter Bay marina..
Never saw a 'gator' in Florida either.. I feel deprived

It would seem so. It must taste similar to alligator.

Alligator tastes nothing whatsoever like tuna, it tastes like chicken, so if that's true, they taste nothing alike. Salt water vs. fresh maybe?

Re: Croc Infestation

True story. My best mate in the army is a strapping bloke of Scots decent. After our combat tours he went to grow tobacco in Zambia.

Life out in the bush can be lonely, so when his cousins suggested a spearfishing trip to lake Kariba he was on board. His cousins had done this for many a moon without an incident.

So he was swimming on the surface looking down when a croc hits one of his thighs, the top of the snout missed his manhood by 4 inches. In a surge of adrenaline he pulls his dive knife through it's sheath, cutting it lengthwise. He started stabbing at the beast in a fury,in doing so stabbing his own leg in the shin and knee.

He lost the knife at this stage and continued fighting the croc with his bare hands. He managed to insert his thumb into the croc's eye. At this moment when he could not release is thumb from the scaly eyelids he thought he was a gonner.

Eventually it let him go and he was able to dislodge his thumb. Lake Kariba is a man made reservoir that has many islands on it,especially when there has been no rains. His cousins could not see or hear him as they where on the other side of a small island with the wind blowing from them to my mate.
So free of the croc he swims to the small island, lying on the sand when the bastard thing comes again and bites him on the ankle. The croc must have been wounded though by the knife earlier. It lat go and sank away into the depths.

He was flown by a half pissed bush pilot to Pretoria's 1 Military hospital where he made a remarkable recovery. His leg looks like it has pieces of flesh ''melted'' away. He was lucky no infection set in. You can see a semicircular scar on his inner upper thigh that is about 5inches wide.

He regained full use of his leg.notwithstanding the gnarly scars. Afew months later the two of us barbecued a croctail which he enjoyed with copious amounts of Castle Lagers.

er... I meant crocodile must taste similar to alligator, not that either one must taste similar to tuna. I will try to write more clearly and more easily understood, for the benefit of our brothers from north of the lake, and try not to assume too great a level of comprehension and logic in the reader, when I post. Mea culpa, my bad.

I wasn't inferring the tuna reference to you, just the "must taste similar" part. If one tastes like tuna, they therefore can't taste similar. Only because I have eaten gator...and if croc tastes like tuna, the gator didn't.

Alligator tasted like, or at least had the consistency of, lobster when I had it.

Re: Croc Infestation

Had some fried gator in Florida not too long ago. Not sure I could tell the difference between gator and catfish in taste or texture. Both were cooked cajun style.

Re: Croc Infestation

Well that's it then, rather than ship frozen sheep legs to Europe which actually aren't worth very much, why aren't they shipping exotic crock tails for BBQ or smoked and cured for the Germans. Anything left over goes into dog food.

Pete
