Probably more than 90% of sailors that stand up to pee are men.

Yep, boobies on a girl = nice!
Boobies on a man = not nice!

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

I'll bet all the guys who are claiming they stand up don't clean the head.

I saw a similar sign in a bathroom at an airport in China. It showed a figure standing too far back from a urinal, with the caption: "One small step for man, one giant step for mankind".

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

I have a removable panel that creates an on open stern on my boat. I can have two life lines and the panel in place and am quite comfortable peeing off the stern of the boat. It saves wear and tear on the head pump. I have taken to sitting down when I pee in the head though. Less splash/slinging to clean.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

so for the people who sit, does than mean you rarely clean your head?

No it just means we don't have to clean up the outside of the bowl as much as the inside.

When at sea, sit to pee. Also at home sometimes, its relaxing. This thread reminds me of the time ,at anchor,I watched two girls standing on the boat seeing who could pee furthest !! Impressive !

In the Bashmobile, we observe the "All Sailors Sit" rule even when in port.

+1

The after heads are in a position of low motion, and heads compartment itself is spacious with good handholds. I stand in anything less than F7 or so, then kneel if necessary. Sitting seems kind of, well, gay.

Never over the side while underway - that's just reckless.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

A man who has had sex recently has utterly no control of the direction of the stream...just sayin it might be wise to sit. I clean the head so I adopted sitting unless I am recklessly wedging my self among the shrouds and contemplating the foaming bow wave.
My wife thinks peeing over the side is a disgusting male activity, or a form of advertising or something.a good skipper takes all factors into account to optimize the pleasure during the passage.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

The votes are in and there are some obvious trends:

There was a clear gender gap, with women firmly against standing while peeing.

There was a clear geographical gap, with Brits and Aussies standing and peeing in every possible direction on all points of sail.

And there was a clear socioeconomic gap, where those without indoor plumbing tended to stand while peeing or to alternately use trapeze like devises to swing out over the side.

However, there were just enough civilized sailors out there to validate my decisions to sit while peeing. Thank you for your support.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

I remember somebody saying to me years ago that men are non specific when urinating. As long as they hit something, they do not care what it is, wall, floor, bowl, themselves even.

You know what they say on the internet, pictures or didn't happen.

That reminds me of a girlfriend I used to have. She insisted that she should be able to learn how to write her name in the snow just like I can. It was pretty funny to watch.
