Nothing to add here, seen most of them, Deep Water is definetely my favourite documentary, The Bounty (1984) the best naval film, and Capt Ron the funniest subject-related comedy. Kill Cruise is definetely rubbish but it's underrated rubbish and Paltrow (also the commander in Das Boot - best naval war film) does a classic penniless & alcoholic marina nightmare..

I have a question to the panel, I am trying to identify a film I saw in my childhood, and which I could never find again.

It's about a bunch of children, maybe schoolkids, getting stuck on a tropical island after an airplane crash (not lord of the flies!) with two parental-type figures. They proceed to escape from the island by turning the B-52 type airplane into a massive improvised trimaran. Someone gets eaten by a shark. I can't remember how it ends.

There's certainly some famous faces in there, and I seem to recall the title was something like escape from paradise.. It's a harmless sort of kiddie film, even a bit disneyesque.. Does that ring any bells?

Thanks!

Sand Pebbles, I agree was the best. I identified with Steve McQueen, I to was a marine engineer who spent half his carreer at the same rank...only I was better looking...lol

-I love "Captain Ron" to just cheer me up
-I watch "Open Water 2" Nearly once a week just to watch the first 15 minutes of that awesome neo-classic 75 foot yacht
-(forgot name)There is a movie with John Travolta where he hand builds these wooden yachts. Not a main function of the film, but there are several shots of him in the boat shed working and one cool scene with him, his son and his ex's new husband
-(forgot name) I just saw this movie about two brothers and their girlfriend/wife and most of the movie is shot on the sailboat and it is a very nice yacht.
-"Triangle" shows people getting on a yacht which I believe to be a hunter 45DS and then they run into trouble.. Actually a pretty cool movie..

Great to hear about these other movies as I will try to look for them..

I don't know why there isn't an all sailing/boating channel. You would think the market is there.

I saw "The Thomas Crown Affair" Last week. There is one short scene of two catamarans flying through a harbor. Also is some footage of one capsizing. Warning: no sailboats were harmed in the making of this film!

A couple of obscure ones... Sandefjord. Probably saw it 5 decades ago. It was a doco of 4 or 5 friends buying and old Colin Archer type yacht, repairing/rebuilding it, and doing a circum.
The other was a TV movie I hooked into halfway through. It was obviously a version of the Scarlet Pimpernel. He had a brilliant yacht, and gave the Dutch credit for it, that looked like a small sailing ship. I seem to remember he referred to it as "... me yot".
He also had a very nautical expression, "...sink me", equivalent I suppose to "... well I'll be damned".
Would love to find the movie because the second half was great.

Not my favourite film!

Has anyone seen "The Perfect Storm" staring George Cloony. There are so many rubbish bits in the heavy weather scenes that I gave up and watched golf!

True... but it did get one good point across.... don't abandon your boat till it actually goes down... out of the frying pan into the fire..??
