Favorite Sailing Movies

I'm sure "Captain Ron" will surface here, but what other classic movies portraying sailboats do you guys like, even if there's only one good boat scene? New & old.

"Master and Commander"
Partly for the boat, partly as a reminder that Captains don't have to be nice to their crew.
The book series reads better.
'Capn Ron' is only a film, not real life. Even JFK managed to wreck someone else's boat against a pier! Not to be recommended unless you have friends in high places.

"Master and Commander", I hadn't seen that one.... just went and watched the trailer for it... looks like a very good movie! And Captain Ron is always great for a laugh! I do enjoy watching it.

The "Morning Light" documentary should be on the "to watch" list for sailors of all ages. BWS

I like an old Jack Lemon movie called the "Wackiest Ship in the Navy" set in the South Pacific during WWII. For you youngsters out there that is World War 2, and not a reference for a wrestling franchise....that last bit was directed to my teenaged daughter....Allan

I thought "Deep Water" -- the recent documentary about the ill-fated entry of Donald Crowhurst in the 1968 "Race for Madmen" was very good.

Can we post both movies and documentary?

Here's a list of movies I loved not yet listed:

Joe vs. the volcano
Summer Rental
Pirates of the Caribbean (1+2 NOT 3)
Captains Courageous
Moby Dick
Mutiny on the Bounty (Gibson version)

AND, from TV and available on DVD:

The Onedin Line series (AWESOME old ships)
Horatio Hornblower series
Adventures in Paradise series

Let me know if Docs are OK...I have a lot.

While not actually a movie... I love the old TV show of the early 60's James A Mitchner's Adventures in Paradise with Gardner McKay as Adam Troy. Its about a former military guy in the South Specific who after the war, bought a schooner (Tiki) and operated a shipping business out of Tahiti and had all sorts of adventures in the process.

Last season I purchased the entire CD collection and we watch on a small DVD usually in the cockpit after dinner. It was most likely this show that initially got me turned on to sailing. While it is Black and White... it is still great stuff.
