There's a number of people with hearing loss from combat noises, rock concerts, and plain old age, and they tend to shout on phones because they can't hear so they assume they need to raise the volume to be heard. But there's also a confirmed psychological effect, when you are listening to, or overhearing, just half of a conversation, your mind perceives it as more annoying because it is "filling in the blanks" and working harder to deal with the disturbance.

I want to see what happens when Spirit Air starts charging $25 a head for the good old Cone of Silence. And just how they're going to get passengers out of it, once it jams 'em down in those tiny seats. Or maybe they'll offer it for free, and just charge $50 to remove it.
