Has Anyone Been Following the Reid Stowe / 1000 Days at Sea Stunt ?

Hi I was wondering if anyone had been following this story? I realise that I might have missed it on the forum somewhere.

Re: Has anyone been following this?

He did indeed stay at sea for more than 1000 consecutive days. However, he has many critics because of his new-age psycho babble, and the ultimate pointlessness of his venture. His claims of psychological exploration for NASA's space program are complete BS. His art is arguably disgusting at best, and his methods of representing himself are a little too avant-garde for most peoples comfort. He was also widely criticized for his apparent lack of personal responsibility shown by dropping his pregnant girlfriend off in Australia and continuing on his aimless quest, to which he was introduced to his son 3 years later. They appear to be doing fine though despite the delay in their relationship...

I have no idea if any of this was discussed on this forum or not (I wasn't around here back then), I checked in every so often on a different forum...

I think the general population of this forum would not recognize this man as a "cruiser" in any sense of the word, and since it started 4 years ago, and finished last year, you won't find it in anyones radar these days...

Re: Has anyone been following this?

Thanks crazy. I actually met him thirty years ago in bequia. He had done some offshore cruising like any of us had at the time. He and his crew were a little out there even then. I sure wouldn't want to sail around for 1152 days living on sprouts and fish. I couldn't make enough beer. I guess the one bit of research might be rewarding to the ferro cement crowd.

You can go over to Sailing Anarchy and read about it for days and days. They have one of the longest threads ever on the subject. Quite funny at times.

Re: Has Anyone Been Following the Reid Stowe / 1000 Days at Sea Stunt ?

I thought his trip was kinda cool and he's kinda cool too. Totally harmless to everyone as he was thousands of miles out to sea drawing pictures with his track.

But fools on forums sit behind their desks and like to pull the wings off butterflys.

I think he did well. Loony or not, he did it, like Frank Sinatra said....

Good on you Reid

+1 Kooky is good. The world needs more oddly cool people.

Re: Has Anyone Been Following the Reid Stowe / 1000 Days at Sea Stunt ?

Many off topic posts have been removed from this thread, as well as comments on moderators and moderating, as well as comments on those comments. Far too many to send each individual poster a PM. This post will have to do.

I added the language to the thread title, zoombats, because your original title, "Anyone been following this?" was poorly constructed and contained no information to help readers know whether they wanted to open the thread and read it. It's possible that you never read the Rules when you joined (many new members do not), so I invite you to do so now.

Re: Has Anyone Been Following the Reid Stowe / 1000 Days at Sea Stunt ?

The original poll on the forum here gave the first choice of 0-6 months and mentioned how long will this couple stay at sea. I voted for 0-6 months. They lasted as a couple about 10 months so I was wrong.
There are many worse things to do than spending 1000 days at sea but I'd want to at least be physically going somewhere. I hope he's found his inner self.
kind regards,
