Re: "Heads" or "Head"? or Bathroom etc Whats correct?

The head is where you go to avail yourself of the marine sanitation device, which is similar to a personal flotation device, except that you don't want to float in it.

Re: Heads or Head or Bathroom ? What's correct ?

I call it grudgingly wasted space. Inshore it has to be there, and ladies won't sail without one. Off shore I find the lee rail or a bucket works for me.

Re: Heads or Head or Bathroom ? What's correct ?

We say head & head. It's a single syllable and easy to say whereas bathroom is two syllables unless you're from the southern US, then it's three.

LOL. Agreed. As a scientist I can understand why some folk are particular about terminology, but am less enamoured with those who do it with a snooty air.

Example: I was reading the lastest "The Coastal Passage", a crusing publication which many Australian and particularly Queensland sailors are familar with, and was enjoying an article when I came upon this:

"And there are the yachties who have
been cruising for years and still call a chart
a map, the head the toilet, sheets ropes
and going below downstairs."

The article was, the author freely admitted, an unabashed whinge, but that last part slipped a bit toward snobbery I felt. Maybe he was just being ironic though.

Re: Heads or Head or Bathroom ? What's Correct ?

If we can't call things by their correct name, then all things become thingy's.....communication breaks down...bad things happen. It is not snobbery to know the appropriate name of things and communicate in a more precise manner.

The toilet resides in the head. Gotta go.

While visiting a dirt dwellers home, just don't ask him if it's okay to crap on his head.

Laughing. Call it a bathroom, toilet head I don't care. When I worked aboard it was always a galley no one was to worried why. When I went home I cooked in the kitchen.

Re: Heads or Head or Bathroom ? What's Correct ?

Is it more important to have toilet paper in the head or a well stocked magazine rack? Does "Boats & Harbors" make better toilet paper than "Practical Sailor"? Wait a minute, shouldn't that be called "Head Paper"?
