Being Boxing day (no idea what that is about ) can't lay hands on a mousetrap.........am gonna try bait into a upturned bin, as chemical warfare not as succesful as I had hoped (Air Freshner ).
Be very careful. You may be dealing with one of the super intelligent lab mice developed by the CIA during the cold war. They were designed to be smuggled into the former Soviet Union to infiltrate their missile silos and chew up the wiring destroying the launch capability of their ICBMs'. After the Cold War the mice were deemed surplus and released from active duty and set free. They have since become a menace to boat and home owners everywhere.

Remember! if you haven't heard a rumor by 10 A.M., start one.

Update

I've got him located in a cupboard - am not getting too excited though, have had him trapped in there before (and there are no mousey sized hole exits ).........will, tackle him tommorow (being hungry may slow him down a bit!).

Feck! he got out of the cupboard ..........just spent a couple of hours chasing him around the room (again) as I slowly remove potential hiding places (needed a tidy up anyway ).

As he's way too smart to climb into the upturned bin - I'm nicknaming him Gord

David,,, why don't you just admit defeat and try to make friends with the mouse. Offer him some wine and nice brie cheese,,, he might be able to help you out while you are redoing your boat. he would be good at running wires in small places. Try to learn his language and make friends. It is the only way you will win

1002 uses for duct tape. Place sticky side up put dab of peanut butter on it. Don't be Mr nice guy when you get rid of it this time, you may have to give up your membership to PETA though.

Once you see one mouse, you usually have a dozen -- or will soon enough.

D-Con (poison), I'm sorry to say, is what really turned the tide after a lengthy trapping campaign in our mouse-infested old farmhouse.

Well you can do what I do if killing them makes you squirm... use a live trap and take them (especially when it's cold out) to the police station. Go use the public rest room and open the trap... Simple Oh and Ps. this is the time to leave.

Well don't do what my brother did back on the farm and shoot the wee mouse with a 22cal rifle, for scale imagine a full grown man being hit by a 105mm Howitzer or something along those lines....

God it was messy, helluva shot and mercifully quick for sure, but messy......

Sheesh, that's nothing! Some years ago we met a retired LAPD chap who (after a few beers) admitted using a shotgun to kill a rat that had been plaguing him. He'd had more that a few beers at that time too, but his aim was good and the rat was essentially vaporized.

The mess wasn't too hard to clean up in this case... because he was below decks in his Columbia 26. The large hole in the hull that resulted admitted a cleansing flow of sea water, and the mess was likely gone before the boat hit the bottom.

The rat did not bother him again.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: I'm being outsmarted by a mouse!

Get a trash can or bucket with smooth vertical walls, about 3'deep, and put food in the bottom. Place it where the mouse can jump in. Unless he is supermouse, he/she won't be able to jump out. What you do with him then is up to you.

Re: I'm being outsmarted by a mouse!

I've found the "bug bomb" if you use several of them at once will kill all pests large or small. Try to find the original that you turn upside down in a metal pan full of water to activate, not the new ones that use aerosol cans, (and are just glorified spray).
