Information on Buying a Boat from the US and Sailing it Back to Ontario

if anyone has information about trading a Canadian purchased sail boat to a US dealer and purchasing a new boat.

I am aware of the taxes that need to be paid at the border when buying a new boat, but im not aware if these taxes are wavied or reduced if we are trading a boat in and the taxes were paid on our boat 2 years ago?

any help would be appreciated.

First you have to find a boat dealer who wants the boat you are trading - that will be a trick in this down market. The dealer/broker can normally take care of the tax issue. But before purchasing another boat and taking it back to Canada make sure the boat conforms to Canadian and your provincial regulations.

I found a broker who wants are boat, as we will be upgrading to a 49 hunter.
they are not aware of the Tax and Border situations as they dont deal with many canadians.
