Into the Storm

I made a delivery last week, Tampa to New Bern, NC.

Pushed the boat, and made it in 8 days (going around the keys). Was glad to have her in the slip when I learned of the hurricane.....

.... got a call from the owner tonight, flying out in the AM to get onboard and get her our of her slip.... marina has a evacuation order.

Please wish me (and all others in this strom's way) well.

Thanks,

Re: Into the Storm.

Stay safe and remember the owner is not paying you enough to die or even injure yourself. Looks like we here on Long Island are going to get a direct hit. Heading out to the boat to take the sails off today. Hopefully it will not be the last time I'll be on board. May all the lines, moorings and anchors hold where ever they are.

Damn!!! Talk about out of the Frying Pan into the Fire.... Good luck old son. If you can, head for the Gut, west of Hog Island (up-river!).

Be Safe...

I am thankful that Irene missed Florida (where my boat is floating) but feel horrible for all of you in her path. If nothing else, it is a HUGE inconvenience. You are all in my prayers for security and safety.

Ah another classical scholar! Perhaps an appropriate sentiment non-the-less. Perhaps also, 'navigare necesse est vivere non est necesse.'

Good luck and only take the risks you are happy to take

That could mean like Nelson said: "The measure may be thought bold, but I am of the opinion the boldest are the safest..."

Thumbs up Re: Into the Storm

Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

According to the USCG,, I experienced a wind gust of 121 mph, but the boat held together.

I was were I was supposed to be....

THANK you all for the good thoughts and prayers. I would like to say that I will not do this again, but I am sure that I will.

Thanks
