Let's see, two young men, late on New Year's Eve, in Key West.

Is it possible alcohol was involved?

But as I understand the story, this is not an actual nav aid, but a touristy thing on land. Still not a nice thing to do, but not in the category of nav aid desecration.

It's on land. So "not for navigation".

Re: Key west famed buoy torched ..

At the same time, it is in the form of a navigation aid, and it's public property. So I have no problem with however they would like to charge these young men.

Mostly, they should pay for the damage.
