Smile Looking for Advice on San Carlos, Mexico

Hello CF community --

This is a little off topic, but I'm hoping someone out there is either in San Carlos or has recently visited and can give me some advice!

We are in the process of buying a boat on the hard there, and are trying to plan the trip down to do the sea trial / survey etc.

What I'm wondering is if anyone can recommend a cheap hotel in the area (ie < $50/night)? I've looked online but mostly seem to find Best Westerns... is this really where people stay when they come to San Carlos???? Are there any more "local" hotels that you know of?

Any other general advice on places to see / things to do while we're down there? Other than buy a boat I mean :P

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or information!!

We did this a few years back, get off the plane, get in a taxi, ask the taxi driver, plenty of places that are just fine, but you won't find them on the internet.

San Carlos is great. We stayed at Bahia delphin. We want to retire there.

We drove down from Tucson. Had no problems. Lots of Expats. If you need paint job look up arturo. Excellent/reasonable and lots of referances.

Re: Looking for advice on San Carlos, Mexico!

For anyone's future reference, we ended up staying in a small hotel called "Posada del Desierto" -- down the far end of San Carlos, RIGHT beside the marina and the Fruteria. It's as authentic Mexican as I think you could find in San Carlos, was $35 USD/night, extremely clean, very friendly staff, and had a small kitchen which was really nice. Doesn't seem to have a fixed address, so you have to be willing to ask locals for directions to actually find the place, but I would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for a budget hotel near the Marina.

And on a side note, we bought our first boat!!!

Ah, yes. I still have a tee shirt I bought at The Fruteria in the '90's.
It has a pic of Tetakawi on the back.

Congrats on the boat.
What did you get?

Don't know exactly where you are, but nearby are the condominiums at Los Hitos, behind Izy's Market and the old bowling alley, about $40/night for a condo with kitchen, living room, bedrooms, etc., within sight of Marina Seca San Carlos...
