Medical Issues - COPD

Just wondering if anyone is currently cruising with COPD, and if so do you find high heat, humidity exacerbates the condition or is it actually easier to breathe?

Re: Medical Issues - COPD

I'm sailing with COPD, no unusual problems, but I do keep my inhaler at hand. Diesel/exhaust fumes seem to be the most problem, but that is small and only when motorsailing downwind. All the breezes seem to make breathing a little easier than on land.

Thanks Zee, I noticed in your previous posts you have a nursing background, so am I correct to assume warm moist air would be beneficial to breathing ? (fingers crossed).

Think of COPD as dry... And CHF as wet.. Kinda makes respiratory 101 seem easy

My Dad did not have a problem....he had supplemental Oxygen.....we could load the Oxygen Generator aboard for weekend trips or carry bottles for overnights......We also had the numbers of Oxygen Companies at various ports...if needed

Re: Medical Issues - COPD

chf is right side pump failure causing the extremities to fill with fluid called edema. pulmonary edema is pump failure causing lung filling with fluid--left sided pump failure.
copd is merely lung disease.
lung disease gets along well with moist air. pump failure doesnt get along with anything for very long. pump failure is heart failure.
