Hmmm, I think I've seen your boat Janny and no, I'm over on the St. Johns at Green Cove Springs at the moment. If your hubby is thinking of pulling her out of the water to work on her, you might consider where I am. VERY unusual diy allowing yard.

Ok, so you like Tock names...well, you could play with the alternatives...

"Loose Tock"
"Heart to Heart Tock"
"Tock Back"
"Tock Away"
"Tock Down 2"
"Tock Over"
"Big Tock"
"Tall Tock"
"Soft Tock"
"Pillow Tock"
"Sweet Tock"
"Tock Sense"
dinghy.. "Baby Tock"
"Peace Tock"
"Money Tocks" heheheh
"Dirty Tock"
"Sexy Tock"
"Tocked Out"
"Y Tock"

Personally I like "Sweet Tock" or "Pillow Tock" and "Baby Tock" for the boat/dinghy combo. Never seen or heard of those

i'm sure you can come up with some more

Any votes or ideas?? Did y'all have this problem?
First boat was a killer and took forever to come up with the name we both would agree to. Second boat was named before we made the offer. It goes that way some times. Some boats take to names easy. Others go kicking and bleeding money the whole time.

Boat name rules:

1. You have to say it three times on the VHF before you can consider it.

2. If people can't spell it you'll be doing it as long as you own your boat. Start with friends and then try a few strangers to be sure.

3. Silly names usually get old quickly. After a few years they fail the VHF radio test. The same goes for names that are too cute.

4. Find out how much it will cost to change the old name off the boat as well as add the new one. Last two boats we purchased had the old name done in two part paint and took a very long time to remove at great expense. Maybe the old name really isn't that bad? You don't actually need to live in the hailing port. On a US documented boat you never "have to" change the name. We did both boats though so I can see why you might too.

My wife never liked the one name I liked, maybe you will: Bob

In Japan, we usually name our children by the term of our wish, such as, Yoshiko(beauty), Makoto(faith), Aiko(lovely), Isamu(courage).
In the case of the boat, we usually wish it never sink, in any devastating accident.
If you also wish so, then you can name your boat "Styrofoam"...

You have to think of what people might do with the name.. Saw a boat once with the name of "NIGHT WIND". Everyone around called it "THE FART IN THE DARK"

It's bad luck to rename a boat. It'll sink. You have to find a used boat with a name you like.

Renaming the boat is one of the fun times to be had in boat ownership.

Paul gave a couple of great hints about the name. Especially the announcing it on the radio part. Another consideration is that the boat crew often gets nameed after the boat, "Hey! Have you seen the Wet Dreams lately?" Also you shouldn't confront the Gods - i.e. "Poseidon's Master" would be pushing the envelope...

Also make sure you conduct the ceremony appropriately. Here's a couple of links to some scripts. We did the pdf one, invited all the folks from the sailing club and it was a great way to get to know people and for them to get to know us.

Boat re-naming ceremony - Nautical Know How

http://www.bluewatersailing.com/docu...ngceremony.pdf

BTW - "Relax Lah!" is a local coloqualism that essentially means "Don't Worry." We were sitting around trying to come up with names and someone said Relax Lah we'll find a good one - bingo...

We get excellent comments eveywhere we go. All the marina guys, customs guys and immigration guys chuckle when the see the name.

You guys are just too fun

Bob the Boat--your poor wife...
Wet Dreams--c'mon, I'm a gal, and there's a bunch of them
Night Wind--now that's a funny story!
Baby Tock for the dink, we just love

As you can guess, we still haven't decided. Her current name is Sea Scape, and I have a problem with S's - besides, it just doesn't suit her.

Bad Luck to change it's name? How does one know how many names the old boat has had? The last owner had her 14 years.

When giving out her name, like to a draw bridge, is it written down? Does it need to be spelled correctly?

Dan, that's for those links, I think #2 sounds like more fun--which one did you do?

Hope y'all aren't finished yet...

Yes we did number 2. Here's a couple of snaps. Crappy resolution as I think these were cell phone pics.

Note the borrowed ship's bell. We also had great plans to be purtied up and looking nice but late that afternoon Relax Lah! decided to eat an impeller so we worked on the boat right up until 5 minutes before the ceremony. Welcome to boat ownership - LOL.

I also like Bear Away - Several interpretations available and not to difficult to explain.

How about

"Dock Tock"
"Tock 2 Me"
"Tock Me Away" - <groan>
"Tock Away" - <simpler>
"Port Tock"

Dan, thanks for the photos, what fun!

Seer, you ARE having fun with this, I think you need to come to our naming ceremony, lol.

Mike, she's a Ketch, but I sure do like the name for a yawl.

Ed is stuck on plain old Bear with dingy Baby Tock or Cub, I'm hoping to compromise on Bear Tock cuz everyone immediately asks what in the heck the big thing is (there were only 30 made) and we can still just call her Bear.

K, now I'm gonna ask for trouble, shouldn't we compromise??
