I was in a cafe somewhere in the Maritimes back in the mid '80's called the "Schooner House". This pic reminded me of that time!

I had a good look at one a couple years ago laying off the side of about a 60 or 65fter on the hard ....looked heavy, They where replacing it with a conventional rig....never had the opportunity to sail one.

I read a book by a Brazilian sailor who did the South Ocean in a boat with one of them rotating rigs. He felt that, under the extreme conditions he would face, the benefits greatly outweighed the problems of a mast that rotated. I saw a cat up here in these waters rigged that way as well. Heavy looking thing.

This boat is in the yard in Port Townsend now..will try and get some pics it is also pretty radical under water
