Re: Nautical Oddities

Looking at the image, you’d think this cargo ship would capsize, with all those shipping containers flying everywhere! But it must have had some very skilled drivers on board! Believe it or not, everyone was safe, the ship didn’t flip, and only four of the large shipping containers fell into the water.

Fish training kit

Do you think your fish is capable of performing tricks, such as playing soccer, or doing the limbo? Dr. Dean Pomerleau, of R2 Fish School [1], believes it is. Order his fish training kit [1], through Amazon, to receive a 45-minute DVD along with a feeding wand, training field, base platform, and other paraphernalia. If you don’t find his claims fishy, that is.

It sure sails well with a reef in it.

um...actually the reason Rena didn't capsize is that she is hard aground on a reef (in nz)

the 'very skilled drivers' actually weren't so skilled, but the salvage crew were.

cheers,

Afloat on an upside-down sea
A gravity-defying physics experiment makes liquid levitate and boats float upside down. Watch how this counter-intuitive behaviour results from constant vibrations, which change the forces acting on the floating object.

Video shows model boats floating on an upside-down sea, demonstrating a peculiar new phenomenon.

I said “hang the fenders on the starboard side.”

Insurance? No need my good man, that’ll buff right out.

Tourists spot puma floating on iceberg

Passengers on the cruise ship, “María Turquesa”, on Lake Argentino, in Los Glaciares National Park, in Argentina's Patagonia region, had the surprise of a lifetime, when they spotted a PUMA floating on an iceberg. The bizarre footage was captured back in July.

I seen a pair of Puma’s hanging from a power line in Anchorage.

Re: Nautical Oddities

Pink pollution
Contamination from fish factories stained the water hot pink, in this lagoon in Chubut, a Patagonian province of Argentina.
The bright hue is caused by sodium sulfite, an antibacterial compound used to preserve shrimp. When protests stopped trucks that were carrying fish waste through the town of Rawson to treatment plants, Chubut authorities gave factories permission to dump their waste in the lagoon.
The province’s environmental-control chief Juan Micheloud claims that the pink colour “does not cause damage”. But local environmental activists have condemned the move and expressed concern that the waste could be harmful to wildlife.

Wally the walrus is set to get a ‘floating couch’ in an effort to prevent him from sinking more boats.
