Question Newbie Crew - Did David Do Wrong ?

Got a PM from a CF member, all new to the sailing / boat thing and looking to crew for the first time.

She wanted to know the kind of duties that would be normal for her to expect.

So, I said she would start as foredeck crew. and that involves wrestling a greased pig whilst wearing a bikini.

Did David do wrong?

Right On! Best way to learn is the actual hands on the pig method.

If one doesn't start with the basics one will never advance beyond amatuer pig handling.

Depends. Would that pig be a boar or a sow?

Just explain the need for the live pig is limited fridge space and I think you'll be fine. If she's worried about the bikini getting all greasy, you could make wearing that optional.

You may or may not want to see that.

David, I'm glad we've got people like you working the door.

The part you forgot to mention is that this is not a solo event. This is a competitive event with multiple entrants, and in the event that someone actually wrestles the pig down, the remaining entrants must wrestle each other until...well, until we deem them fit for the next round.

Which is white shirt deckwashing

It depends David on whether you were planning on being the pig!

David, you have a brilliant mind my friend! I deem it awesome that you use it for all the wrong things and still survive!

I thought to fully complete this task the pigs feet must be securely tied with 2 meters of shore line.

Firstly can I say how awesome that the thread stayed both on Topic and on message greatly appreciated folks

I have now received the Thanks I was looking for from the Newbie Crew and thanks to the contributions on this thread she appears re-assured about the foredeck / greased pig / bikini role. For that I offer my heartfelt thanks to all

Might take a while, but if get the photos then I will share here. After all, sharing and helping folk out is what CF is all about

And what does the goat have to say about this (both the pig and the new crew).
