Re: Ok So Who Is Actually Out Sailing This Weekend ???

If you're feeling bad about not sailing this weekend, just think, you could be here with me On the other hand I am happy that I'm not at home with no job, or in Afghanistan, or sick or injured...Hopefully I will get to go sailing at least once this summer when I go back to Costa Rica for my R&R in July. I took this photo in the middle of the day during a sandstorm...

I got similar pictures myself from Afghanistan.

I'm landlocked in Germany for now. A little more than a year, I can finally leave. I just hope it's near the water.

Not sailing as cruisers typically think about it, but we were out sailing yesterday & supposed to do it again today ... if these dang thunderstorms ever blow on through! (disclaimer: this is not us since it's tough to get photos of your own boat - this is a buddy boat, but since the boat's are one design, you get the idea!)

MarkJ, The only ships I see around here are ships of the desert I'm afraid.
Dan, good luck with your next posting. I have been here for over 2 1/2 years and counting. Barring an upturn in the real estate market, I expect to be in Afghanistan next year courtesy of CRAM... Oh well, I'm planning some daysailing in Costa Rica in July and a longer sailing trip to Panama in January. I am definitely looking forward to those trips

Re: Ok So Who Is Actually Out Sailing This Weekend ???

Sadly not me. I've been laid up with a messed up knee since I pulled the toy over to the club from Ontario Place. I was hoping to get her emptied out and ready for survey on Friday and Saturday but only managed to be able to get to the emergency ward at the hospital on Friday afternoon. Even today, standing is a pain, walking is a real joy. Hopefully by Tuesday (my next day off) I'll be able to get to it and get the surveyor down. Then its wash, wax and bottom paint, and into the water she goes.

I'm still working on mine. She's in the water though, & I hope to have everything ready next weekend. While working today, I discovered I'd forgotten to bring things- shackles, & it turns out I didn't rig the topping lift before I stepped the mizzen... damn.

I guess my "Aluminum Pot Syndrome" is kicking in!

Went sailing yesterday. Just an "out and back" trip with some friends. Breeze never got as high as 5 knots. Still nice though.

Was out today - beautiful conditions - spotted a great White shark and a school of dolphins came through us.
One if the most beautiful sights was the bamboo schooner sailing in the bay with all sails out - really stunning

Was out this weekend. Went from Bristol RI - overnight in Newport - and back this afternoon.

Great weather and wind in the bay

We are!

Big boat is out of commission for a transmission rebuild so we took the Hunter 146 out... small boat sailing is a blast!
