Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

So, you're probably wondering, what's wrong with this picture? Nothing, except for the fact that the boat is advertised as a "ketch." In this picture you can quite obviously see that it has but one mast and is NOT a ketch. (In fact, this particular make and model was never made, or sold, as a ketch.)

What's worse is that this is on Yachtworld, posted by a broker. Come on! If you can't tell that this is not a ketch, then you have NO BUSINESS, as a broker, trying to sell sailboats! Stick to the powerboats and leave the sailboats to someone who at least has some tiny little bit of knowledge about them.

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

This one has been buggin me for a long time. It is a ketch, though.
This tri was dismasted, I think both masts, and is without sails according to the ad. But these pics must all be from before because that's an inmast furling sail there on the mizzen and 2 furlers up front with sails. Most of the pics are pretty old because you can see the flash reflection in just about every picture. In other words they are pics of pics.

But $50k for this boat might not be a bad deal but it's under contract.

What's the exchange rate to USD? Seems a very high price. Cute little boat though.

Cheap for a "luxury cruising yacht" though.

Yeah, and I have to say that the pics aren't all that great either. I mean, seriously. Are there really people out there who STILL don't know how to rotate a picture?

Wow.

Not all of us are as tech savvy as you. I'm still tying to find out how an Ipod works. Is there a little record player in there or what?

You're joking, right? I mean, my father is well into his 80's, never touched a computer until about 5 years ago, and is about as tech UN-savvy as a human being can get. Even he knows how to rotate a picture, though.

Not to mention the fact that, if you're putting an advertisement on the internet, and including pictures in the ad, then you really, REALLY have to be pretty stupid not to spend the 30 seconds with google that it would take to learn how to rotate your pictures.

It just never ceases to amaze me how dumb some people can be when it comes to trying to sell something. This thread is a fun, rather amusing way to constantly remind myself that there really are people out there who are that stupid.

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

Really? No smiley-faces?

Okay, if you seriously do not know how to rotate a picture, then your options are clear. Next time you want to sell something DO NOT try to put pictures of it on the internet! Or, at the very least, STOP taking pictures with your digital camera turned sideways!

Better yet, spend a few minutes and learn.

I think that if you're trying to sell a $50k boat it is probably worth at least a few minutes of your time to avoid looking like a complete idiot. But then, based on this thread, and the many "for sale" ads you see out there with pictures turned on their side, it would seem that there are a whole lot of people out there who feel otherwise. That's okay. Makes me feel good about myself to know that I don't think like those people. :-)

Hey, I barely could post what I did. It would probably
blow my post away if I tried to insert an emoticon.
Actually, my first try, I hit some button on my keyboard
that did blow it away. It's not always the person,
sometimes it's the technology. (Insert appropriate
emoticon here)

Yeah, and based on that I'm guessing that you would be smart enough to get some help from someone who knew what they were doing, before trying to put pictures in an advertisement on sailboatlistings.com, or some such, to try to sell your boat.

Okay. I confess. It was unkind of me to suggest that in this day and age anyone and everyone should know how to rotate a picture. For that I apologize. For a lot of people that is just unneeded knowledge. But that would be people who are NOT trying to create an online advertisement, with pictures, for a high-dollar item.

The point is, it is stupid to post pictures in a "for sale" advertisement if you haven't got the first clue about how digital pictures work, or how to post them. Get some help! A secondary point would be that any broker--who is in the business of selling boats through internet listings--has got to be a complete idiot if he is unwilling to spend the 5-10 minutes that it would take to learn how to size and rotate a digital photograph before posting it on his website. In that case, just get out of the business!

1980 Valiant Esprit 37 Sail Boat For Sale - www.yachtworld.com

I love this listing. The pics are either 1) from the previous owner's website or 2) completely unfocused. But since the boat went uncovered all winter, with sails still on (and with dock lines still on cleats, can't even take those off), I'm not surprised. Poor boat.
