I thought that rope was something that got stuffed into seams to plug leaks. Those look like lines.......Just sayin...

Rope is what you have before you bring it on board and cut it up for a specific function. Then it's a line -except- be kind of hard on your sail if you used your bolt rope for caulking.
Once read an article that enumerated seven ropes on a sailing vessel, most of them rather antiquated, with the exception of bolt rope and bell rope.
