Robot sailing science data collector

Perhaps you want to further the horizons of science:

Robotboat Mark VI by Eamon Carrig — Kickstarter

I may be up for a tee shirt.

How big are there things? If more than 2-3' feet long I'm not so sure I would like to have hundreds of them floating around the ocean.

Re: Robot sailing science data collector

Looks like the Mark I was half the length of a single canoe so maybe 10 ft.

These seem to be a good idea. Back when I worked at the institute we had to rent vessels from the National Oceanographic Institute at a cost of $10,000 /per day. Which limited us to about one cruise per year. With these things costing about that each we could have done alot more research quicker. But then I would have missed out on those port calls

I like the idea behind it but I didn't see any kind of lights on the models in the video. Maybe they're just prototypes but don't like the idea of unlit boats floating around the ocean.

They do look every bit of 10' maybe 14-15'. Wouldn't sink my boat but could put a bid gouge in my paint job and maybe screw up the prop if I happened to run over one.
