Saw this old photo today and thought of the readers of this thread. A few captions come to my mind. Add your own in the comments below.

"She planes real easy."

"How about those stanchions!"

"Need a bigger boat? Simply drop in a leaf or two."

How about this one:
” Divorce lawyer – $10,000; loss of house, car, etc – $250,000; small marine motor – $250; disposable camera – $8; sending your ex-wife a picture of you boating in her family heirloom dining room table – PRICELESS!” Here’s what he meant:

You know how to tell if there is sharks in the water? Taste it, if it's salty, there are sharks in the water...

Back when wooden ships were huge!

Look at the size of those timbers!

Recently colourized photo of a partially constructed ship at the Wallace Shipyard in Vancouver. July 9, 1916.

In the hurricane of 1926 a large five masted vessel named the Rose Mahoney went ashore in Miami. The father of a friend of mine got the job of breaking her up. He salvaged much of the lumber. My friend told me the frames were 12 x 12 inches and spaced only a couple of inches apart. He gave me a piece of the hull planking which I've since given to the History Miami museum. The plank measured about 4" x 8". The ship was double planked. So the hull was 8" thick. The plank felt light to me for its size. I think the wood might have been Doug Fir.
