SailRocket new, new speed record

Vestas Sailrocket

THE DAY THE RECORD WAS SMASHED
After ten years of trying, Australian Paul Larsen's Sailrocket team has
obliterated the outright world speed record. Seeking to better the mark set by American kiteboarder Rob Douglas of 55.65 knots in 2010, Larsen last week piloted the inclined rig hydrofoil proa Vestas SailRocket 2 to an
unofficial speed of 65.45 knots on Walvis Bay, Namibia.

That's nearly 75 mph~

Boy Howdy!

Re: SailRocket new, new speed record

After the record Larsen wrote on his blog. "We went straight into the 60s. The pod was instantly high and I sheeted in as hard as I could to try and get it down. I was now adding a pre-fix to 'fast'. It was now 'This is fuc*ing fast'. That word is there for moments like this. I believe it ceases to be swearing."

Truly exciting to see a boat and a team that breaks all the molds take the record from something like 52 knots to over 65!! These guys are awesome. And not on a huge budget, either.

Re: SailRocket new, new speed record

Whats the big deal? The only difference between their speed record and mine aboard our Hunter 31 is a teeny tiny decimal point... (;-)
