It's predicted that the last two living organisms watching the last sunset on a dying Earth will be Keith Richards... eating the last cockroach.

Can we fix research culture?

From hypercompetition to career instability, much has been written about the problems of academic research culture. But the question of how to fix it has proven to be a Gordian knot, because of the complex network of interactions between researchers, funders, institutions, publishers and others.

With a focus on chemistry in the United Kingdom, Chemistry World offers a special [1] looking at what’s wrong with research culture [2] and how to improve it [3].

No.
According to your linked Canadian Veterinary Journal editorial:
“... The take home message is that readers must exercise caution in interpreting the published literature, regardless of the reputation of the journal in which an article is found."

They're still 100x more useful than spouting conspiracy theories.

ABB launches world's fastest charger to plug into surging e-car market

Can deliver 100km of range in less than three minutes
Only charger designed explicitly to charge up to four vehicles at once
Ideal for refuelling stations, urban charging stations, retail parking and fleet applications

ABB’s new Terra 360 is a modular charger that can simultaneously charge up to four vehicles with dynamic power distribution. This means that drivers will not have to wait if somebody else is already charging ahead of them. They simply pull up to another plug. The new charger has a maximum output of 360 kW and is capable of fully charging any electric car in 15 minutes or less, meeting the needs of a variety of EV users, whether they need a fast charge or to top their battery up while grocery shopping.

Eating sustainably is one of the easiest ways to combat climate change, experts say
  • The easiest thing individuals can do in their daily lives to make an impact in the climate fight is simple switches to their diets
  • Specifically, eat less meat and more organic, plant-based foods -- the closer they were grown, the better
  • 56% of the carbon footprint in all diets in the U.S. comes from meat, and 45% of that comes from beef
  • The country could get 10% closer to its climate goals of keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius if the top 20% of the population that ate the highest carbon footprint diets ate meals that were average in carbon footprint instead
  • Reducing consumption of all animal-based foods by 50% would save 224 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, the equivalent to emissions from 47.5 million cars annually, or 24% of the reduction in emissions necessary to meet climate goals
  • A family of four switching to eight vegan meals a week would be the equivalent of switching from a regular car to a hybrid

But, animal-based foods like meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy account for approximately 70 to 85 percent of American's dietary protein intake.

Since the average American adult man consumes 75 percent more protein, than is required [for American women, it’s 50 percent more], perhaps, another solution is to simply eat less protein.

It may not be as simple, as we'd wish.

Yes, breaking old habits and establishing new ones is not easy. Yet if we "alarmists" refuse to do something so much within our own control, what hope is there of convincing climate agnostics to change their ways, to say nothing of rabid "deniers? I guess we can hope for technological breakthroughs, were we all can have our cake cow and eat it too.

It may be that simple.
Intermittent fasting 16/8 is gaining momentum with the new generation and some of us who wants to prevent type II diabetes.

I am almost finishing and old book that just got reprinted from the Brit RC Sherriff written in the late 1920’s called “FORTNIGHT in SEPTEMBER”. Is about a Brit family going to their 2 weeks beach holiday. It is a time capsule on society and everyday living back on those days. What marveled me was how little people ate, obese people were mostly associated with wealth, but the common men through small meals and lots of walking were generally fit and only vulnerable to infectious diseases.

Not to rant, but is not even 100 years past, so I see hope that new generations can take the lead for a balanced life, including moderate consumption

We tried deliberately eating one meatless dinner a week, and we actually liked it. Especially Indian vegetarian dishes using chickpeas, lentils etc. We're going to try for 2 a week next. Plus, being old f4rts who occasionally listen to our doctors, (and trying to budget) we now eat smaller meat portions.

We've tried the new "meatless" burgers and they are fine... but about as expensive as steak, so these will hopefully come down in price as the uptake increases. I've also tried some other vegetarian dishes, and had one Thai curry using a vegetarian chicken substitute that was really good. Still looking for more info on that one...

I ate bugs on a dare in Mexico, and lived, and I'm convinced that insects or grubs will one day be an important high-volume source of protein in our diet. I mean geez, what are shrimp, crabs and lobsters but big sea-bugs?
