Most of the generators that went offline were thermal generation (fueled by gas, coal or nuclear), but some were wind generation.
ERCOT said they lost some ability to generate power because of a loss of gas supply, and because of ice on wind turbines.

It's not the cold which knocked out the turbines, but icing due to freezing rain.

And it's not true that the problems with wind turbines played a significant role in the Texas blackouts. See here:

Re: Science & Technology News

In January, Nature asked more than 100 immunologists, infectious-disease researchers and virologists working on SARS-CoV-2 whether it could be eradicated. Almost 90% of respondents think that the coronavirus will become endemic — meaning that it will continue to circulate in pockets of the global population for years to come. But failure to eradicate the virus does not mean that death, illness and social isolation will continue on the scales seen so far. The future will depend heavily on the type of immunity people acquire and how the virus evolves.

“The coronavirus is here to stay — here’s what that means”
A Nature survey shows many scientists expect the virus that causes COVID-19 to become endemic, but it could pose less danger over time.

I didn't know wind turbines were de-iced using fossil fuel heating. Learn something new every day .

There are many coronaviruses that will always be somewhere on the planet it will never go away . Heck they still find pockets of bubonic plague every year . And that got out of China in the the 700's CE. And we have a cure for it ( yes it's bacterial and not viral) then there is the common cold viral infections. Never going away .

Forgot to mention new england states do not have the same level of ice storms as they do in Texas.

( thanks for the remind GordMay)

Somehow I've missed part of this conversation. How are wind turbine blades de-iced?

Would you post your information source for all of us?

Not that it is relevant. De-icing is a problem in many places, and many techniques are being tried to solve the problem efficiently.

Dicing is accomplished from helicopters and sometimes even large drones
With Petroleum based deicers

I think you beat me to the answer. I did the DuckDuck thing after it was mentioned. Seems like there are a number of approaches, one of which is heating by fossil fuel.

According to AIRBORNE DE-ICING SOLUTIONS FOR WIND TURBINES, no de-icing fluids except (hot) water is allowed due to environmental concerns. I'm getting the idea that you often make up "facts" to suit what ever point of view you wish to defend. Please demonstrate that I'm wrong by providing a reference for your statement.

That is for Sweden study was done by the Swedish for turbines in Sweden
