I've often wondered if they send vets who've lost their legs letters saying, "if you want an appointment, just run up these three flights of stairs," ya' know?

Write to Senator Webb's office..he is very good about making noise when it comes to the government screwing up with Veterans...

The VA is hopeless. No one cares about us old vets. I've written dozens of letters all to no avail. The Unions run the VA now and all they care about is a pay check.

I don't think they are so much insensitive as just plain stupid. The other day I heard an announcement come over the public address system in the airport terminal - "Would the passenger who lost the hearing aid please come to the help desk . . ."
- - Bureaucratic stupidity is as old as civilization - you can't let it get your down. And just think of it as one more good reason to sail off into the sunset.

Even better when you go to the VA for an appointment you check in on a computer then take a seat in a large waiting room. At some point a nurse comes out and calls your name. Some of the waiting rooms are large and several people are being called at once. If you don't respond, they shout, if you still don't respond they get pissed off and mark you down as a no show! At some point you go up and say, "why hasn't my name been called?" They say, "we called you, you missed your appointment, you have to re-schedule." At times the urge to wring necks is near overwhelming, ya' know?

thmas-- do you remind them when you get ther ethat you dont hear well?? migh be a good idea to tll them you do NOT hear so they have to come get tyou and is THEIR fault-- every time--- might help? donot allow them to do that to you-- -ada covers you on htat-- make them acknowledge yur problem and they will make sure you get into the appointments-- every special case is just that-- special and is not cool to allow the special needs of your situation become overlooked by either lack of sensitivity or any other reason---health care folks arent perfect by any stretch-- ye have to continually remind them that there is a special need.

In the old days when you checked in with a living human, of course I would tell them. Half the time it did no good, but I always told them. Now you check in via a computer screen and it's impossible to tell them anything. The computer only wants to know if your taking your meds. Than again, after dealing with those idiots, one needs to take lots of meds or go postal, ya' know? LOL

Used to be, but not any more, just a blinking computer screen and no humans about. As much as I don't like lawyers I think one of the problems is vets are not allowed to sue the VA so the VA can act with impunity. Anyway, back to funner stuff...ok? Why don't you bring your 41 up here and we'll go for a sail? You can practice nursing on me and I'll show you the wonders of the delta. Too long in one spot is not good for a pirate girl, ya' know?

So much going on here. My thoughts on this exchange - it reflects a big problem we all have.

We have our own boats we love (or plans to buy them), our own dream cruising plans.... How can we make room for someone else? Without making room, by being willing to change our plans, even to the extent of putting the boat in storage for a while, how can we hope to find the mate we want?

One or the other of the potential pair has to give the other's boat and plans a try. If things don't work out, well so what? Our own boats and plans will still be where we left them. And we will have had a fun sail!

I won't comment on this specific case - Y66 and Zee - but maybe all of us who are still looking and hoping should think about crewing for others who might be a potential mate.

Just my $.02

What's with you California girls Zee? Cold is a good thing. Ya' know when it gets cold, all you have to do is put on another layer and you're good to go. When it gets hot, you take things off, but when there is only skin left, then what do you do? Just sayin'

not a kali gurl, ackshully-- am a sufferer of reynauds disease-- i donot do well in lower temps- my low has risen to 70, below which i donot have normal function. colder the weather, more the pains and dysfunctions. is more npw than just my joints and bones-my body core temp is only 96.8 now.- i want to find a bit of warmer water before i have serious ischemic changes with guts and heart. i have already progressed to that region of concern, so i am just trying to survive as comfotably as possible--also kali is way too spensive for my budget.
i love the bay area and delta of sacto river-- i just cant go there anymore-- i used to live up there--loved it..is time for southern exposure. ye know , thomas-- ye can take up a leg with me--i suggested buddy boating as you have allergy to kat and we both have boats and might be good to intro slowly..also buddying is a good way to get to know someone without having to tolerate them ....ye know??!!
is easier to like someone if they arenot in your face in your space.
