Kindred spirits. I've had this in my mind today. It's the common thread among the cruising blogs and sites I read. From all walks they come, yet in each I find an "aha!" moment, a reflection of me.

Were I to head out over the horizon, what would I want most? Water, food, a kindred spirit; not necessarily in that order. While this group is for those of us that do not have that other set of eyes to see this world with, it strikes me that we are even deeper kindred spirits in that sense.

While it is assumed that you wouldn't be coming to this group if you were not also seeking another set of eyes, another hand to hold and be held by, I also think it is fair to assume that most of us will remain as ships passing by each other in the night.

So I throw out this line to you: we are kindred spirits. If you don't find your mate through this group, could you still bring something of value to it? Could you still receive something of value from it? Out of a group, could there grow a certain, special community?

Am I overreaching... out of bounds... over the horizon?

Or have I just had too much coffee?

Amen to what Zee said - the chances of anyone finding their soul mate on a cruising bulletin board are beyond calculation, yet we still post and respond and inquire, as if we might ask that one question, or reveal that one personal fact about ourselves, that will move another to have some "Eureka!" moment and make it obvious that we are meant for each other. In the meantime, we hone our message in the hope that we will catch the eye/ear/heart/soul of a cosmic mate, whether here or elsewhere.

And say "hi" to my good friend Caffeine.....

Rossir --

Most people want food, water, and a hand to hold. The dividing line is this: what do you want to hold in the OTHER hand?

a remote? a car? a mortgage?

or

a tiller? a sheet/line? a chart?

John

(some of you should NOT tell us what you want to hold in the other hand)

I don't know... maybe it's the space I'm in. We may all be as ships passing in the night but, to borrow then hack a phrase from cool ole Luke, that could be a pretty cool place to be.

Salty - I like your image. We are also like monkeys in a tree. We are free to be whatever it is we want to be. Forget logistics... We've got this site, so let's get noisy.

I'm popping in here to say "Hi!" About to have new to me boat and hope to soon set off to see where the wind blows me. Maybe North, maybe South, no real plan other than to just go and see what's out there. That said, single handing is really a drag and I'd much rather have a SO or at least a compatible person or two to share the experience with.

I posted a "crew wanted" post over on Sail Net and got flamed for having the audacity to say "female preferred." I guess some are offended by preferrences in this day and age. Go figure. I really liked Rossir's post on kindred spirits, I just don't really know where to find one. Sad that, don't you think?

Regards,

Thomas
