The prize was a guitar pick? Got a coupla them and can get by without...glad I didn't try too hard. Still, listen to the Mark K. and Emmy Lou album...is great.

Ok it didn't happen today and it's mostly my fault. First, yard guy comes by and says we gotta splash you right now or you have to wait until Monday. WTF? What happend to a little notice. Well, ok, stop what I'm doing get off the boat so they can splash me. All is well, at least it seems. Yard guy who is allowed on the boat comes up on deck jumping up and down, "your sinking, your sinking!" ****.

Ok, so in my rush to get off boat forgot to close sea cock to raw water intake and as raw water hoses are disconnected from engine....well....you get the picture. Amazing how much water can enter a boat through a 1.5" hose, ya' know. So, once I figure out the problem, I shut the sea cock and we stop sinking, but I have yet to connect new battery bank, so no power to run bilge pump...more delays while portable bilge pump is found. By the time all the "to-do" is over the sun is sinking fast and I have yet to install the new batteries. Yikes. Move fast, measure, cut crimp....no power, got haul all wires off boat to closest power outlet a block away. Heat shrink is wonderful stuff, isn't it? Even more wonderful when you have power to run heat gun. More time lost. Dark now, very tired. Decide it's best to call it a day, find hotel and crash till morning.

So, go back to hotel I've been staying in. From the time I checked out at 9 this morning until I attempted to check in at 9 tonight they raised the room rate by $40!! Same damn room, just $40 more. I won't play that game, so I am now looking for an alternative room, and failing that there is the boat without power or head. This is fun, right? We love our boats, don't we? I'm beat and I better split before former hotel realizes I've tapped into their free internet connection!

Regards,

Thomas

The saga of Y66!!

Forget the hot shrink. Use liquid plastic or wrap it and get moving . You can do that later.

zeehag, you may have to get your Samosa up here to SF to tow ol' Y66 up the coast.

Oh and remind me never to name my boat SS Little Devil. I don't want people referring to me as SSLD. Sounds like a STD! Lol!

Please don't say you have no manual bilge pump on board...

Against (good) advice here I plumbed a wobble pump in series with the electric one. The electric pumps "through" the wobble pump and with no electrics I can manually pump out. Did it yesterday in fact...

That's a bit rude. What a pain. But as Z says - move aboard!

Good luck with the rest of the departure!

Of course I have a manual pump, but I didn't have the inclination to keep pumping after about 10 minutes and not a whole lot of progress. There was a LOT of water in the bilge. Took the electric pump some time to empty it too.

In the end I did move aboard, but am still here. I got a lot accomplished today, but not enough, so maybe tomorrow. The weather forecast is very good so I'm not feeling rushed. I'd like to have left a week ago, and I do have things I need to tend to back home, but it's safer to take your time and I want to be safe. After my sinking experience I also invested in an additonal electric bilge pump. Better save than sorry.

I had removed a sticky drawer and since I still don't have power I took the drawer out to the parking lot where there is an outlet and my car is parked. So, I'm sanding away and this guy comes up and asks if my boat was just splashed, I said yes. Only he didn't refer to it as my boat, it turns out he thought I belonged to the stink pot closest to my car. Anyway, he went on to tell me what a pretty boat I have and how wonderful it must be to own a steel boat like that. WOW that was great to hear, even though I see all her faults I guess others don't so much. Still, she'll get a new paint job and some interior work.....if I ever get back to Astoria. <sigh>

Regards,

Thomas
