Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

Well, that's ONE of the ingredients......but it must be a respectable and manly rum, not the effeminate white rum that one finds in cocktails, or the cheap swill on the lower shelves of supermarkets. Pusser's, or Bundy Black, are ideal. OK, no more freebies. No money, no honey....

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

gag white rum isnt even rum--is some greengoz idea of what kind of clear booze to use for showing off how drunk he can get on cheap sugar cane squeezins....lol 50 yr old mount gay, any nice , local jamaican, semi dark or dark--sorghum rum is heavy stuff and is unique in flavor, but makes some drinks an most cooking enjoyable--plum pudding would benefit from a dousing in this..lol

Black Strap seemed to come to my mind when I think of thick dark rum.... WHen I was a kid, making my way thru the Islands, I got my hands of some of the local stuff that was real thick and good!

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

I did a beer-tasting trip in Belgium. They made it convenient by having a pub which has all the beers of Belgium in one place. Over 300 of them. I started going alphabetical and was doing well, and then settled into going by category, the dark triple brewed beers like Kasteel. Apparently it was a good night. Wish I remembered where the place was, I'd go back, but a little more scientifically next time, and stretch it out over some weeks. Btw, what is the availability of dialysis machines out in the cruising world?

More of those machines on board than aquariums would be my guess Micah.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

Coops, I'd really like to hear about your Navigator. Particularly the rig, namely the sheeting setup and the boomkin if you have a mizzen.

Also, what's the weight of the CB? Was keen to epoxy cast tungsten scrap in it on the Whaler, estimated total CB weight with steel core & tungsten plug around 100kg.

Rambling on.....any cruisers got a rum still? Heard about beer brewing, but no distilling.

It's off topic Micah but will answer for you. Mine's a sloop rig, but for all the info you need spend some time on this site and the links he has.

Arwen's meanderings

Sorry folks.

MIcah,

While beer brewing (and making wine) are generally legal in most countries, a still is illegal everywhere (to my knowledge). If you are caught with one, the revenuers will first fine you, second confiscate the still and its products and likely toss your a** in jail.

Governments take a very dim view of people who distill their own likker.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Oh. Hmmm. Ok, a takeapart still for use in international waters. Then they won't be having dim views, because it's none of their beeswax. Drinking self-distilled likker is legal, I hope.....if not, I'll call it mouthwash designed to go further than any mouthwash has gone before.
