I had to study Latin for 8 years or so.....in all that time, never made much progress....if there ever was a language that was difficult to speak, read or write....

Also got to spend a bit of time in South Africa....where the local language Afrikaans has some peculiar nuances......like placing the verb at the end of the sentence...
in English...."the boy kicked the ball"
in Afrikaans (translated to English).." the boy, the ball kicked"....

try that on for size...

Not actually a joke but it was funny. I was once in an international meeting, where most participants were not native english speakers, watching a Scotsman and a guy from south Alabama argue a point. The looks on the participants faces were hilarious.
