dextare = right handed


sinistere = left handed


Left-handedness was a mark of the devil, hence 'sinister'.


So any God-fearing person who can equally use both hands, has two right hands...!!

Ergo: "ambidextrous" (the correct headline) means "both right-handed".


So technically, not correct either, in a physiological sense....
as clearly the bowler has both a left and a right hand....

That's the problem with taking the derivation of a word too far back,and ignoring changes of meaning over time

as a youngster...I spent my formative years in a convent, run off course, by nuns....

being naturally left-handed, the nuns would rap my knuckles on my left hand with a ruler whenever I picked up a pencil, trying to induce sufficient pain in mah hand to induce me to use my right hand...

didn't work though.....I used only left-handed pencils...

In later years, I would buy only left-handed screwdrivers for my tool box....
