Re: The 2021 & 2022 Joke Threads

The Medeocrates one jogged my memory...

Working for a MegaCorp, they would try to motivate us with slogans like "Striving for Excellence!"

They would "benchmark" other companies which did something "excellent" and try to get us to follow that example. We were expected to be top performers in the industry, even if it meant long hours and lousy working conditions.

But when it came time to review wages and benefits, they would scour the world looking at what other companies in the industry got away with paying their staff, and set our compensation at precisely the median values.

Or, as we called it, "Striving for Mediocrity!."

I think it was Robert Heinlein who wrote that:

Bacon should be cooked while nude, so as not to overcook it...

What makes this joke even funnier is that Americans don’t know how to cook bacon as they almost always overcook it until it’s crispy!

So true. I used to work for a company that had a lot of staff move through a lot of ports, LA bieng one and when they changed hotels it was always interesting/difficult to explain to small local restaurants that bacon should not be crispy and eggs may safely be served sunny side up. One "chef" explained, rather pointedly that that was the way they served it, like it or lump it, at which point one of my colleagues pointed to the hotel across the road and pointed out that the company had 100 rooms a night, 365 days a year there and nearly all of us ate a breakfast of some sort and if they wanted piece of that action then perhaps a reconsideration would be in order. After a short period of consideration it was decided that, yes it could be done.
