Re: The 2021 Joke Thread

Hmmmm....not sure Tonto would have spoken Spanish. according to the radio and TV series he was from the make-believe Potowatomi tribe.

Tonto was played by six different actors: John Todd (a white man) on the pre-war radio series; Victor Daniels/Chief Thundercloud in the 1938/9 movie serial (he claimed to be Muskogee, Cherokee and Creek, the latter two certainly false); Jay Silverheels in the Clayton Moore/John Hart TV series '49-'57 (he was Canadian Mohawk ancestry) and also the 1956 movie 'The Lone Ranger' and the 1958 sequel 'The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold'; Michael Horse reprised the role in the 1981 movie 'The Legend of the Lone Ranger' (he had Swedish and German ancestry); Nathaniel Arcand took up the reins in the 2003 tele-movie (another Canadian, he has Plains Cree ancestry, though in this film Tonto was Apache); and finally, Johnny Depp played Tonto in the 2013 film, this time as a Comanche (his parents are both Caucasian ancestry).

So, yeah, I guess Spanish is probably 'near enough' as the Spanish and Mexicans had controlled the Western half of the lower 48 from around 1700 to their ousting in the Mexican wars in the mid 19th Century.

But I do like the age-old punchline: "What do you mean 'we', paleface?"

Kinda sums up that whole Native American/Caucasian division....

Re: The 2021 Joke Thread

Apparently, ya’lls not getting it. The word “Tonto” in Spanish means fool, or one who makes bad decisions. Now go back and read the meme.

Re: The 2021 Joke Thread

Not sure what you're getting at delmarrey....in the meme all the men are masked, hence the 'be more specific' tagline.

Oh, and I forgot, there were two more Tontos: Shepard Menken, who voiced him in the 1966-69 Halas & Batchelor animated series, and by Ivan Naranjo in the 1980-82 Filmated animated series. He at least was Blackfoot Southern Ute, from Colorado, so was probably the closes to the 'real' Tonto, at least in terms of geographic origin.

Buzzman, it’s kind of sad that you know all that stuff.
Of course I know that RT Firefly’s first name is Rufus.

You have to start at the bottom and go up as follows:

A woman comes into a room and finds a man relaxing doing a crossword.
He then voluntarily decides to walk to the garden and work there until the woman calls time out.
Happiness ensues…
