Re: The Mallorca Squad

Weavis, I've looked at a number of electric gizmos for my own commute needs. I cannot tell you how much junk is out there. Better check the weight of this puppy. Anything that comes close is going to weigh a lot to carry around wherever you stop. Don't be fooled. These batteries + gizmos weigh a beast. Even the platform gizmos with two wheels don't work.

Here are some I saw recently which are getting press

The Brompton didn't even cost 1/10 as much as this bike. I miss the velodrome.

You can always get an electric Brompton and that will keep Ken happy

There is an electric scooter shop here in Seville and Ive tried all the latest boards, and I mean all of the designs in one form or another. Ive had one or two novelties myself in the past and moved them on as the injuries multiplied.

I am not keen on units that do not have handlebars in one form or another... the segway unit in your video actually is the only one that felt relatively ok without handlebars but.... not for me.

My needs are not the same as for use on a boat... light weight is not an over concern as I will probably be chaining it in the bike rack in the town. Im viewing it as a mini moped so to speak. The one Im looking at is 42kilos.
The New MAF Evolution X2000S Electric Scooter 2000 watts of power

Id love a super lightweight unit that I can carry on the bus or train... unless a person is 70 kilos in weight its not going to happen. Super light units are inherently unstable and the batteries in them last about 5 minutes. wheels make a huge difference to the ride and pneumatic tires are heavy.. lead acid batteries are heavy, sturdy frames are heavy, brakes that work are heavy...

I mapped out the proposed usage very carefully prior to looking at transport.
4.2 km is the longest single route I will be taking. Realistically if I did a round trip to all my places it would be less than 16 km. If there were direct buses I would not even get a scooter. However there are not for some of them. I also have charging points at all the places. In the event of a breakdown... the scooter will go in the trunk of a taxi.

I'm with Hoppy on this, your scooter looks like a cry-for-help. If that's the look you're after, then go for it.

If you must go electric, look for a used Segway; otherwise get something that peddles because the exercise will do you good.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

The good news is that in December, if a certain event happens, I will be into a small catamaran based out of Almeria...

If it doesnt, I wont.

life.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

There's a decent Italian folding bike manufactured in Sicily by Lombardo which sells new for around €280 euros. Buy one, save some money, get some exercise and not look ridiculous.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

I cannot believe they don't have bike racks on the trams, trolleys or busses where you are. I would get a Brompton if I could afford it with an electric gizmo. Best of both worlds. Or an e-bike, an electric pedal assisted bike

Re: The Mallorca Squad

Taking a boat ride later on the Guadalquivir. Just missed being on the water so have to fix that little problem..

Probably do about 3-hours and stop in Le puebla del rio overnight. Good friends there and a great food place..
