Quite right. The interior shots would be shot in a studio, probably with break away sets to allow camera angles and lighting.

The boat that was used for the sailing scenes in Captain Ron is a few boats down the dock from us in Kemah, TX. People from all over the world take pictures of it.

One of the guys on the dock said that three different boats were actually used for different scenes in the movie in addition to any sets that may have been used.

The current owners used to live aboard. But they have recently moved ashore.

Incidentally, the boat survived hurricane Ike.

Yeah, remember the scenes in Captain Ron when Martin Short is battling with the recalcitrant engine? The engine room was huuuuge!

What I found most depressing in Dead Calm was Billy Zane destroying all that pretty cabin woodwork with the axe. Hopefully that was a set and not the real boat! I liked the scene where Nicole shows her sailing chops and single-hands to go rescue Sam Neil. Of course, I would happily watch Nicole Kidman painting her living room, so perhaps I'm biased there.

yah, still researching the boat in Open Water 2.. Really nice boat!! As for dead calm yah, they built a set on a floating barge so they can have the same motions as being on the water when shooting. Apparently, they shot just off of Frasier Island!! Man I need to get a boat and start sailing around OZ.

I do check out the coast with google earth and there are so many inlets and coves and islands around the OZ coast, you could literally spend a lifetime just exploring those.

Can't wait!!!
