Welcome to Saint Augustine!

My wife and I made our first overnight passage from Ft Lauderdale to Saint Augustine just the two of us. Two nights. No dramas. I'm now mildly inebriated in celebration.

Cheers!

Max breeze of 13.5 kts, typically between 5 and 10. Almost dead calm water. We motored sailed the whole thing, making between 4.5 and 8.5 kts. Biggest concern was reports we read of the St Augustine Inlet being sketchy. Turns out it was rather pleasant, even though there was probably 3kts current flowing out.

Yeah it's good to log a few miles. We really enjoyed the peacefulness of this short trip. Though, I would have preferred more wind

Re: Welcome to Saint Augustine!

Yep. That inlet can get nasty. You don’t want a Northeastern with outgoing current... As you know it’s shallow both sides of the channel. Thank you for sharing your experience!!!

Our first ever overnight sail was leaving Marathon just after lunch, sailing all afternoon, evening and overnight, then most of the daylight hours the next day arriving on the edge of the Bahamas Bank and dropping the hook late afternoon. We were head to Morgan's Bluff on Andros to check in there.

Turned out to be a wonderful experience and quite the confidence builder although we did cheat a little, we had a buddy boat! Another couple on their first overnighter as well. It was a great 1st experience for both of us.

I'm sure you will have fond memories as you look back on your experience!
