What do you do with the body?

We aren't even on the water yet, planning to do some blue water in the future, but I keep having this unusual thought....

If one of us dies, probably me, way out in the middle of the ocean, what do you do with the body?

I am 6'2" and 260 pounds. My wife is beautiful and petite...you'd wonder how she ended up with me if you saw her. If I were to drop dead in a hull, should she throw me over whole? Cut me into pieces? Leave me there until she gets into port and deal with the smell?

Am I the only one to plan like this????

Put the body in a bag with a 5-inch cannon shell or extra anchor, then lower/drop into the water. If close to shore, take the body there.

Hilarious, I'm not going to risk incriminating myself...

Re: What do you do with the body?

There was an article in a sailing magazine years ago about a guy who died. His wife wrapped him up and sailed the boat into, if I remember correctly, Greece, and informed the authorities on the way in. Very sad.

On a lighter note, Mrs Flare and I were motoring on the ICW and we saw a dead Canada goose in the water. I said, "Geese mate for life." And then, after a pause, I said, "Maybe he threw her overboard."

Ahh, come on!! Hasn't your wife learned about the mechanical advantages of block and tackle? Just have her practice on you. It's called MOB drills. Or maybe "SOB drills," if you do something to piss her off If you die, she would need to ship you over right away because bloat is bad and the gases will eventually explode with funky juices spewing all over. Under no circumstances should she cut you up. Blood would just get everywhere and make it too slippery to walk and the cops will eventually investigate. They can find blood long after it's been cleaned up. Might look bad for her.

If the body starts to rot, I would do a sea burial and document it with video, head to the nearest port and contact a lawyer; then the coroner to issue a death certificate and consulate if necessary.

See the International Medical Guide for Ships published by WHO and available for free download. In the third edition it is Chapter 27 Death at Sea.

I recommend a 5/1 block and tackle. Seriously, this is very important. If you don't have the right gear for her to lift you, you are staying in the water no matter how she feels about you.

Hmmmm. Hadn't even thought of that.
