Whisker Poll

That's right whisker poll, not whisker pole.

Facial hair style seems to be a demographic that hasn't really been explored on the forum much but I know a couple people out cruising around with beards who used to be clean shaven. Certainly less effort required.

What style do you prefer?

Re: Whisker Poll

I've worn a beard for over 50 years. No particular preference, just a habit now (inertia).

Weekly electric shearing whole head and beard, trim brows, ears, nose & 'stache by hand.

If mate aboard wants neater, she does it.

Re: Whisker Poll

20+ years of Army, I had to shave.
I hate shaving, but now do so because the wife doesn't like my beard. I go back and forth, but would rather never shave again. Have to shave the neck every so often I guess

Re: Whisker Poll

Clean shaven most of the year then grow a beard in Oct. By January I'm tired looking at the gray and shave it off, instantly becoming younger by 10 years.

Re: Whisker Poll

35 years in local guvnet job, clean shaven in a cubicle. Now I'm my own boss and one day I decided not to get a haircut. The next morning, as I stood in front of the wash basin looking at myself in the mirror, I thought "I didn't get a haircut, why should I shave?" I quit shaving right then and there..

I found my hair has a very nice wave and ladies like to run their fingers through it, who knew?

Now I must admit I'm not happy with the shade of gray the full beard took on but hey, at my age I should have expected it and m not much I can do about that.

I do like my new look.

Re: Whisker Poll

Hate shaving so I go through a few weeks of scruffiness, then trim down the whiskers with
an electric trimmer. Still keep the chin whiskers as a goatee, but my wife likes to trim
it when she cuts my hair.
When I was young I used to laugh at the older guys with all the hair growing out of their nose and ears. Now I am one of them. The jokes on me.

Re: Whisker Poll

I grew a goatee last year for the first time in my life. I think it looked really good on me.

But the Admiral didn't like the feel of it. She told me it was going to ... uh ... negatively affect the intimacy in our relationship.

I'm clean shaven again now.

I'm still landlocked in frozen central Canada. I work outside so keep a beard through the winter.
Summer time I still only shave once a week or so.

My wife doesn't like facial hair period. It's not an option.

Re: Whisker Poll

I’m way too lazy to be clean shaven. I’ve had a full beard since I could grow one.

I did shave my beard off one day on a whim, and presented myself to my lovely partner. She took one look at me and exclaimed: “Eww! You’re ugly. Put it back!”

… so I have plenty of reasons to keep the whiskers .

My perspective - clean shaven please! Stubble hurts.

Re: Whisker Poll

I like to be clean shaven, but after sailing this past winter in winter gales, I think if I have the chance of winter sailing again that I'll grow the beard, even a short one first.

It took my face weeks to recover from the driving cold wind. Not frostbite, but frost nipped skin I guess. Shaving hurt, and aftershave was the most painful experience for the following few weeks.
