World's Largest Yacht Is Too Big to Park

This Mega yacht is so big there are no places to dock it.

Great story... I guess I am still new to this sailing stuff, as I do not understand the nautical term "indignity of docking offshore"..

How does one dock offshore? Is this different from mooring or anchoring?

Or am I simply showing my lack of material wealth, as this is a common term used by megayachts.....

This is just a story used as a filler written by someone who doesn't have a clue about what he's writting about.

Resorting to the 60+ foot "dinghy" to go ashore. The shame of it.

Actually the tender is a measly 50 feet. He could always take the sub instead.

"There will be four pleasure craft, a 50ft tender to ferry guests to and from shore, 20 jet skis and the private submarine. The 12-seat, £2m sub, made by the Florida-based US Submarines, exits the hull through the bottom, which would enable the Russian and his 26-year-old model girlfriend, Daria Zhukova, to come and go in complete privacy. The sub can dive to almost 200ft."

No…I think it is capitalism at its finest… spreading the wealth to many marine businesses by signing checks with that incredible pen.

Those who have digit envy should just kick back and realize we all make the same impulse purchases…. So why criticize him?

I guarantee, he is not bothered by having a self-propelled floating island, that sometimes is barred from rubbing up against a dirty commercial dock

Capitalism? Oligarchism is what I'd call it.

Regardless, I've seen Eclipse several times at St. Bart's and St. Maarten - what a boat. The interesting part is that he also has an expedition boat - Luna which is just as impressive IMO. And, in addition to Eclipse and Luna, he has a container vessel that follows him around with god knows what loaded in it.

And if that isn't enough, you should see the jets he flies in.

It is a stupid story though. This guy goes wherever and whenever he wants.

Re: World's Largest Yacht Is Too Big to Park

While in St Barth's one New Year's Eve, there was a young Russian who had his guest staying on his yacht. His girl friend grew bored and wanted to go home to shop. So he let her take his plane to fly back to Russia for a few days. Turns out she had to be shuttled over to St Maarten to take his 767 on a shopping spree.

At the same time Larry Ellison's yacht was there, the Rising Sun a 453 ft motor yacht with a staff of eight. The word was that you could charter his boat for $180,000 a week for a party of 10.

I anchored well in front of the Rising Sun which had a 25 ft guard boat circleing all night.

Eight people would get lost on a 453 foot yacht. They'd need to carry tracking devices: "Hey, I'm in wine cellar six and the door closed behind me...hello, hello?"
