Re: A young Couple on a Mission...

Wow, thank you all SO VERY MUCH for the warm welcomes. We are currently working on checking and cleaning the sails and rigging and ensuring that all systems are a go. We are aiming for open water hopefully by the end of January. Headed to Florida, The Keys, and hopefully the Bahamas before heading up north towards Maine for the summer. We are only a week into being boat owners and already LOVE the boating community. Again, thank you all.

We'll be headed down the the Keys from North Florida by mid or late January and leaving for the summer in Maine by March, but poking about our favorite anchorages and not in Maine 'till May or even June. Being "cockpit potatoes", you might overtake us. 'see you on the water, Aythya crew

If it wasn't for snowy winters in Boston, I would do the same! My work situation won't allow me to work remotely all the time as I would have to if I sailed south for the winter. Oh well. Have fun!

If you follow your passion, work will come. That's my philosophy, then again, Army Diesel Mechanic for the last 12 years with plenty of tools on board, so I do kinda have a marketable skill out here on the open sea.

Which brings me to another point: to everyone on the forum, I'm a pretty skilled mechanic with plenty of technical know how with none of the "screw you over" attitude that comes standard in my trade. As a matter of fact this is pretty much the reason I have decided not to take part in the commercial aspect of said trade. I freelance for usually whatever someone can afford, and stick around till the owner and I am confident the service I performed was satisfactory. Just hit me up on here to find out where the wife and I are and I'll see if your in the same area as we are.
