Ahoy

Hello everyone. I joined a couple months ago and have been enjoying learning from everyone's questions and answers. I'm a relative newcomer to sailing and I'm very happy to have access to such a great community and resource!

Welcome, Matt.

This is a good place to learn. Where, and what, do you sail?

Where and what do i sail

I sailed a bit over the summers growing up in small boats in New England, then really did nothing until last year when I joined a fractional sailing program - i was instantly (re)addicted after 15 years! It was a great (if somewhat pricey) way to reintroduce myself without having to buy anything.

I sail a Pearson 424 (an 83) named Kismet, which I purchased last fall. Being new to this I wanted something used, sturdy, and able to handle basic coastal sailing without a year of projects, but have the potential for upgrades to do more serious stuff (offshore/extended cruising) when I get to that point.

I'm based in Brooklyn New York, USA and have sailed in the Long Island Sound mostly. I'm planning on going around Long Island this year, and maybe even a trip up to New England or Block Island with friends at some point. Depending on whether I'm off of work this summer, I may try to take some longer trips!

One thing I have immediately noticed - prior to sailing, I used to not mind the winter months in New York. These days, it can't get warm early enough for me. It's gotten to the point where I'm considering going somewhere warmer. Only time will tell....

That's what I did.

Sail any way you can!
