Ahoy

Hi all.

Just got my first boat (Not counting canoes).

I have sailed before with others. Now I get to use my boating license. Yeah.

Here is my boat:

It used to live at a cottage and is dirty.

It's cleaning well and smells of pines . There are pine needles in my cleaning bucket.

It is a functional sail boat but has a lot of small sins.

It's equipped with a new(er) set of sails. They fit poorly. Especially the jib.
Said sails are from a Blue jay.

The original main sail is still pretty good but the jib is in tatter.
No doubt the reason a newer set was gotten.

Does anyone recognize the insignia?
I have searched but have not found. I suspect a short run from a now defunct Cie.
Maybe a Canadian build. I suspect the boat was originally sold in or around Toronto.

I will post a separate query on this subject.

It snowed last night but I am hitching to put her on the river and play.

Daniel

Hi, Daniel [Floatsam],

Welcome aboard CF. Great meet & greet, especially with the pics of your sails and boat.

Once you find out what kind of a boat she is, you will probably be able to find the jib dimensions online. You could even start making your own sails.

Thank you Ann.

Not sure about making sails. I can use a sewing machine. Kinda. Good enough for guy stuff. Sails are so....Public....In your face.

But Yes, I want to know what she is. And Yes, I want some proper sails on her.
Today I "Raised" (Misnomer as the mass is almost horizontal) the older sail.

It as to be the original. Faded but orange like the boat. The fit is so much better. The main has two repairs on it. Odd things. It looks like packing tape only stronger. I am afraid to touch it. Might fall off.

The Blue Jay's jib is useless. It cannot be raised or let down. It is clipped onto the broken furler.

The temperature should go above freezing next week. I am planning on going for a sail with the old main only.

I know she will behave well.

Thank you Ann.

I can use a sewing machine in a very rough manner, but sails are very public. IDK

I would love to find out what she is. And have sails cut for her. Right now I am guessing at the rigging and the accessories.

Today I raised (A misnomer as the mast is almost horizontal) the old sail.

It as to be the original sails. The color is faded but matches the boat. It fits so well that I don't want to use the other sails. She is meant to have these.

The jib from the blue jay is useless. The jib is attached to the broken furler and can't be raised, lowered or rolled.

The temperature should climb above freezing next week and I will try and get her in the water with just the (Old) main.

Till then I need a shackle and work on the wear of the rudder.
