Ahoy, from North Carolina!

Hello everyone, I'm Michael and just wanted to get to know like minded folks that want to cruise. My wife and I are working toward the dream of open ended cruising within the next 5 years. We currently have a shoal draft Hunter 27 that we plan on sailing in and around the Outer Banks of NC and up and down the ICW from Norfolk to Wilmington until we get a bigger boat .

I spent 8 days bringing the boat down from Arnold, MD to Oriental, NC last fall by myself and had a blast. During that cruise I decided that I had to find a way to stay on the boat more so I'm planning to get my Captains license this October and my ASA license between now and then.

Looking forward to picking up all the knowledge and wisdom I can from everyone on this board.

Fair Winds,
Michael

Hi Michael

My husband and I are trying to do the same as you. Our house closes in two weeks and we're having a monster garage sale this weekend.

Then we buy THE BOAT. I may have to work one more year...The spouse keeps talking about getting the captain's license as well. Let us know how it goes for you.

see you around the Forum

Welcome to the forum Michael. Oriental is a great place to be for sailing. Lots of overnight trips you can make from there, in all directions. As well as an ideal place for daysails, whichever way the wind is blowing. (Not sure from you're post if the boat is actually in Oriental or Washington) You might want to also look into NCsail.org.

Thanks for the welcome! My wife and I are in a state of transition, we are relocating to Washington, NC from the mountains of NC. We're house hunting at the moment and looking to move Gypsy from Oriental to Washington/Belhaven/Bath area. I bought a sailing school there (Washington) and contracted with several Captains to teach classes while I get my certifications and licenses. All the kids have left the nest and we are in the process of simplifying our lives, major down sizing and rethinking of priorities. (Must be that midlife crisis thing)

We're currently looking. I'm leaning toward Belhaven so I can be a day sail from Ocracoke and closer to the ICW. I hear the wind is better there?
