Ahoy! from So Cal

Hello All, My Name is Matt. I am getting Married in 3 months, me and my fiance are planning to live aboard up in Oregon while we expand our Web/Graphic design business. Our business allows us to live virtually anywhere with Cell and Internet service. We both grew up on the water and would love to get back to it. Ive handled smaller sail boats and trailerable ones for weekend river trips. We do plan on taking sailing/boating courses to make sure we are prepared for this endeavor.

I look forward to meeting and talking to all of you. Also, if anyone can recommend a boat they think would suit us between 30-40 ft.(we have just begun looking) That would be great also recommendations for a live aboard marina basically anywhere along the Oregon coast would help loads.

Thanks for reading!!

Matt

Hey Matt,

I've got a similar thing going. Work remotely doing mainly web dev. It's a wonderful life!!

Here's a good list of boats on the smaller end of your spectrum (up to 32ft): atomvoyages.com/planning/good-old-boats-list.html

BTW, there's a Pheon-built Vancouver 27 for sale in Victoria
1979 Pheon Yachts Vancouver 27 sailboat for sale in Outside United States

Here's a list of larger boats: Mahina Expedition - Selecting A Boat for Offshore Cruising

Good luck man!!

Welcome to the forum Matt. Skookum used to make a 36' monohull, that is a good vessel. I am sure there are still some around.

Hi Matt. Welcome to CF. I cruised down the coast a couple of months ago and stopped in Newport, Oregon. Lots of liveaboards there, smallish town but doing well financially because of tourism and growing because of the new NOAA base, and a liveaboard slip was considered inexpensive by the folks staying there. Good Englund chandlery. There must be a yard because there's a big fishing fleet. Good luck to you and your fiancé.

Thank You all for the warm welcome. We are taking it slow. And i will definitely look in to Newport Oregon. We actually prefer a smaller town so might be perfect. Thanks for the boat ideas

Do you happen to have the name of the marina you stopped in?

Just look up Newport. I don't think they have more than one. Google earth it and you'll see how large it is.

The Rogue brewery and Aquarium are great attractions there as well.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
